Scott & Renee Baio to Speak at the May 13 Meeting

Glutaric Acidemia Type I, a protein disorder, occurs in 1 of out of 30,000 to 40,000 newborns and will be the subject of Scott and Renee Baio’s address when they speak at the Rotary Club of Woodland Hills on May 13 at noon.

The Bailey Baio Foundation was established to raise funds for research and to increase awarenees of this inherited disorder.  The disorder prevents the body from processing certain proteins properly creating excessive levels of amino acids and their intermediate breakdown prod-ucts, which can accumulate and cause damage to the area of the brain that helps control move-ment. In addition, intellectual disability may occur.

The Baio's became interested in Glutaric Acidemia Type I when their daughter, Bailey received a false positive for the disorder. Scott is best known for his stint On Happy Days where is played Chachi Arcola for 130 episodes. Renee starred in Nutbag (2000) and Murder-Set-Pieces (2004).
