In our first month of the Rotary year, we have celebrated the installation of a new Buddy Bench at the Pacific Lodge, and made a donation to them, courtesy of the “Purple Hair Ladies,” Sheri Polak (r) and Eva Hainer.
As we move forward, I want to emphasize the importance of mental health. Let's not only focus on helping others but also on taking care of ourselves and each other. Reach out, support one another, and remember that it's okay to seek help when needed.
I am committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Your feedback and ideas are essential to me, and I encourage open communication among all members.
In the coming months, let's continue to be innovative and adaptable. Together, we can overcome challenges and create a lasting impact in the lives of those we serve.
A second Buddy Bench was delivered by Rotary Club of Woodland Hills to the Pacific Youth Lodge Services along with a $5,000 check that were the proceeds from a fundraiser conducted by Eva Hainer and Sheri Polak (Purple-Haired Ladies). Click on the picture on the right for a brief video.
Each year Paul Gross organizes a meeting to commemorate 9-11. He is looking for a speaker or speakers who were personally affected by that tragic day: a survivor, a witness, a first responder or a family member who lost someone. “I know how difficult this may be but it’s important that we never forget,” said Paul. Speakers can deliver at the Zoom Meeting on September 6 or in-person meeting on September 13. Please let Paul know if you know someone, so we can plan accordingly.
At the July 11 Meeting David Bassani spoke to us about roses. The club also presented a $250 check to Sylmar Charter High School for supplies and soil for their agricultural program. In 1996, Rotary and Nelson Mandela joined together to do what seemed impossible, kick polio out of Africa. Twenty-four years after the campaign was launched, Africa was certified polio-free and remains so today. Click on poster to watch a video.
