President's Message
Fellow Rotarians,

Our theme this year has been Rotary H.O.P.E.  ― Helping Other People Every day. April 2025 brought our fabulous Rotary Club of Woodland Hills many opportunities to practice Rotary Magic and Service Above Self. Starting with the Youth led District Breakfast in San Pedro on April 5 and ending with shared time with Granada Hills Rotary SOLID Pancake Breakfast on  April 26.

Ferne Saltzman, Christy Pinto and Robin Kellogg and their committee ran a successful Anti-Human Trafficking Town Hall/Seminar on April 5 to inform the community that no one has to go through the horrors of human trafficking.

Our club again presented a great program at Gigi's Playhouse for the Down syndrome community. We cooked an Easter fiesta at the SFV Rescue Mission and conducted Bingo for the LAJH Eisenberg Village’s residents.

Officers of the Year Awards for 2024 for the LAPD Topanga Division were finally presented at Pinstripes. This program will continue on a regular basis. We participated in an All-Street Cleanup of De Soto Avenue for VCC with the Rotary Club of Granada Hills, followed by a Vietnamese friendship lunch in Chatsworth.

On April 15 our members took a tour at our community partner, The Boys and Girls Club of the West Valley. We also welcomed a new member to our great club, Geovanny Ragsdale, who is the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of the West Valley (right photo). We learned a lot from the speakers at different meetings this month and I was very pleased to hear Dr. Chen speak about Chinese medicine through the ages.

We joined the North Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce at the amazing Heroes in Education Dinner. Star Tomlinson won a guitar on her birthday, and I got a nice picture with the famous Mavis whose mother, GH Rotarian Alexis Lopez, sang. Our Vocational Committee has begun the process of awarding several high school scholarships for this year. Matt, Jeff, Lois and new Mom Nargiz, have been working hard to evaluate essays so we can award students who need financial help.

Our club has always shown a giving heart when it comes to The Rotary Foundation. The Woodland Hills club has averaged over $1000 per member in donations this year. We also honored the following club members who became Paul Harris Major Donors: Natasha and Eduardo Estrada, Lois and Gary Koch, Gerry Ward, Shelley Stark, and Sandy Rosenholz.

Congratulations!

You are all amazing in your continuing efforts to bring H.O.P.E. and Rotary Magic.

Service Above Self

Honoring Topanga Police Officers/Staff
The Rotary Club of Woodland Hills, hosted the LAPD Officers and staff of the Quarter Awards for the Topanga Division on April 9. It was an honor to recognize the incredible officers, detectives, sergeants, and staff who go above and beyond every day to keep our community safe. These heroes are the definition of dedication—and they deserve all the recognition and appreciation we can give. (Photos by John Willauer)

Helping at LA Food Bank
The Rotary Club of Woodland Hills spent an Incredible Friday evening helping people at the LA Food Bank packing food baskets filling up cars with them. The event was hosted by Pami Kaur.
Therapy Dogs at GiGi’s Playhouse
GiGi’s Playhouse is always a profoundly uplifting event for the Rotary Club of Woodland Hills. We hosted an evening with Therapy Dogs. The kids got to pet and hug the dogs and received a baseball-style card describing each dog. The organization offers educational, therapeutic, and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community, using a replicable playhouse model.
