I don’t know about you, but WOW what a month! And we still have more days left to do even more. Rotary is about “Service Above Self,” and this past month our club has truly lived that motto.

Our Kindness Campaign is off to a strong start, with members engaging in meaningful acts that promote inclusion, compassion, and respect. We also brought joy to seniors by hosting Bingo at Los Angeles Jewish Health, spending quality time with residents and reminding them that they are cherished.

At the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, members rolled up their sleeves to serve meals while therapy dogs snuggled the children, helping to brighten lives and spread happiness. On top of that, we welcomed a new member, Arlene Stone, into our Rotary family, bringing fresh energy and ideas to our mission. By attending Chamber events, Sister Club gatherings, and partnering with outside clubs, we’ve also expanded our reach and begun laying the groundwork for lasting community relationships.

Of course, I have to admit...I may have lost control of the rogue gang of Woodland Hills Flamingos! If you spot that flamboyance around town, snap a picture and share it with the club. Better yet, if you’d like to flock a family member or friend, just send the details to oopsyougotflocked@gmail.com. Once the fine is paid, our Flamingo Busters will wrangle them back home. (Editor's Note: Diane Nelson's office was redecorated by someone!)

This month also brought an unexpected challenge with the sudden closing of Pinstripes. Thankfully, we quickly pivoted and secured a new home at Sagebrush Cantina, this time in their private enclosed area. The choice was an easy one; no price increase, no minimum, no contract, and, of course, great food and an atmosphere I think everyone enjoys.

Looking ahead, our next District Breakfast is right here in our backyard. Please be sure to sign up, wear pink to show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness, and let’s come together to make a strong statement of solidarity. Don’t forget to bring a Target or Amazon gift card as well.  We’ve been asked to contribute, and I know our club will rise to the occasion.
