President's Message
Fellow Rotarians,

I am grateful for all you have accomplished in Rotary Magic during my birthday month.  You are continuing to bring H.O.P.E to the world not only through your donations but as usual by your daily actions of Service Above Self.

We had a great turnout for Foster the Love Day in Torrance in an event to help transitioning foster youth by making travel bags, skateboards and bikes was an exciting way to start the month. We continue to show District 5280 that Woodland Hills is a leader.  My Superhero grandchildren, Jordy and Drew, brought their cousin to help with this project.

In our first zoom meeting we heard from all our Avenues of Service chairs about the projects we do. Monthly cooking at the Rescue Mission was energized by a great kid’s project led by Past President Shelley Stark and Youth Co-Chair Karen Schnee. Our Live meeting on Feb. 12 was attended by our long-distance member Sheri Polak. We also learned a lot during craft talks by Joe Flores of Fairwinds and therapist Karen Schnee. The next week via zoom we had a primer on senior care by Joe Flores and me.

February 20th through 23rd President-elect Christy Pinto learned everything she needs to know about leading the club in 2025-2026 during PETS at LAX.  On Tuesday 25th Jeff Stern, Christy and I attended the Glendale Sunrise Club meeting for an inspirational talk by Rotary International President-elect Superhero Mário César Martins de Camargo. (Photo l to r: Past President Jeff Stern, President-elect Christi Pinto, RI President-elect Mario Carmago, & President Sandy Rosenholz).

New Superhero Christy and I started the February 26 meeting by introducing Dan Pukstas, the voice of Superman. The meeting was well attended and very gratifying as we had a wonderful preview of international water projects. Our response to the speaker’s call for donations was phenomenal. Lots of fun and funds raised in an impromptu live auction for Rotary Polio Bears lead by Jeff Stern.  Thanks to Star Tomlinson, Arturo Valesquez and Lynn Miller for showing us that we are truly people of action.

It was a short month but long on Rotary Action. I stand and applaud all of you for everything you do for our community and the world.

You are all amazing in your continuing efforts to bring H.O.P.E. and Rotary Magic.

Rescue Mission: Chef de Cuisine
A great group of Rotarians had a really fun project at the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission. They prepped and cooked dinner, served the residents and cleaned dishes before presenting therapy dogs to the families who are living at this wonderful place.
Highlights of Feb. 12 Meeting

At the February 12 meeting Ferne Saltzman received a Paul Harris Pin in recognition of her donations to the international fund. Her PDG husband, Jay Saltzman, did the honors. We had craft talks from 2 great members, Karen Schnee on the first anniversary of her being a Rotarian and Joe Michael Flores from Fairwinds Senior Living. There was a special visit from Rotary Legend Sheri Polak who presented us with a new Rotary Bell. Past President Sheri received an Oscar for her performance last month but probably could win every month!!!

Partnering @fosterthelove
Oh my gosh, what a fun morning President Sandy Rosenholz and President-elect Christy Pinto had partnering with @fosterthelove to build bikes, and skateboards and decorate duffle bags for foster youth. When you have so little, these things are a really big deal. Something to call your own. Click on the photos to see the skateboards being assembled.
Decadent Evening of Chocolate
Rotary peeps enjoyed a 'Decadent Evening of Chocolate' hosted by Andy (aka Theobroma Cacao Geek) and his wife Jill.
