As we head into September, I want to take a moment to celebrate all the amazing things our club accomplished in August.
Our Kindness Campaign is officially underway, and I’m excited to see how each Avenue of Service rises to the challenge of spreading kindness and standing up against bullying. From Bingo at the Jewish Home, painting with kids at the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, to welcoming two new members, Fidel and Fernando, and the thrill of seeing Sheri Polak live and in person (right photo), it’s already been a month to remember! And the best part is, we still have more planned before August wraps up.
If you haven’t yet joined an Avenue of Service, here’s your chance! A new Membership Team is forming, led by Sandy and Karen, who are mapping out how to best welcome new members and grow our Rotary family. If you love Rotary and want to be of this important effort, keep an eye out for the announcement of their first meeting.
Meanwhile, Club Service is going strong with fun events to bring us together: Bee Gees Fever cover band at Sagebrush Catntina on September 26, Chicago at the Hollywood Bowl, and more! Be sure to RSVP so we can secure tickets in time.
As I wrap up my second month as President, my heart is full. I’m in awe of how much we’ve already accomplished. (Though I’ll admit, my office is now overflowing with Rotary items...so much so that my cat, Oliver, has turned it into his personal parkour obstacle course. He’s loving the new workout routine, lol!)
I’m also thrilled for you all to meet Kotoko, our exchange from Japan, has already jumped right in by helping with one of our projects. Her host family has been wonderful too, it’s clear they share the spirit of Rotary.
Thank you all for your energy, kindness, and dedication. Together, we’re making a difference!
The club may not have won the Cardboard Boat Race at the District Picnic at Seaside Lagoon, but we looked groovy trying to! The District Picnic was an absolute blast!! The food, drinks, desserts, and dancers were all ridiculously good. Big thanks to Fidel for bringing the cardboard boat.
It was a fun night tonight cooking dinner with Chef Marko and Pami, meeting our exchange student and her family, and celebrating Pami’s birthday with a delicious homemade cake by Lois. There was an art project for the kids! Click on the photo to see the sous chefs in action. Photos by John Willauer. Click on Read More to view other photos.
Members and their guests enjoyed a fellowship pool party, hosted by Karen & Howard, and coordinated by Mona & Arlan! They had a fantastic time playing in the pool, getting tattoos, and enjoying an abundance of delicious food. Click on the photos to watch a video of the decadent party.
