You continue to amaze me with all the work/projects/funding we do in our community and around the world. Keep up the great effort and we will make a big difference in the lives of many in our community and the world.
On October 10, we had a major presence at the Rotary Means Business gathering at the Relic Museum. It was a fabulous way to network with other Rotarians from all over District 5280. We provided free luggage tags for all the attendees and had a nice turnout of our members.
We had two cook nights at the Rescue Mission this month. During the second one, we had a kids project painting and decorating pumpkins. The event was enjoyed by all (and yes, we wore costumes)! We will be doing another “kids” project at the mission for Thanksgiving. Thank you Pami and Christy for your ongoing planning of these cook nights. Thank you Paulinda and Bryna for bringing the mission new kids projects as well. Thank you John Willauer for capturing the spirit of the night. As an additional service, we will be providing two families with “our unused” furniture for their new homes.
On October 12, we packed food bags for thousands at Devonshire PALS. Saturday October 19th was the Granada Hills street fair and we volunteered at the Granada Hills Rotary Club Oktoberfest pavilion. We had a booth on October 23 at the West Valley Warner Center Chamber of Commerce event where we promoted our upcoming Poker Tournament. We served apple cider and made free luggage tags for attendees. Thank you to all who attended this fun event.
Thursday October 24, we prepped 2000+ salads for Hope The Mission residents. Our Community Service and Senior Services avenues funded turkeys for the Calabasas Rotary Club's Thanksgiving Day Dinner for seniors at Sagebrush Cantina. On Friday October 25, we started to deliver Cardz For Kidz to over 2000 students who will make Thanksgiving special to many residents in the valley. A fun Halloween gathering at Karen Schnee’s house was spooky good.
Special thank you to Tom Kurschner for helping with funding for Foster Kids. In November, we will induct a new member, Jenni “Cami” Alpert, who has already shown us what Service Above Self means.
Congratulations to all who are providing the world with H.O.P.E.

The club volunteered with Rotary clubs in District 5280 to feed those in need. They packed over 20,000 meals that will go to families in the community. Click on the photo to view a video.
“I’m going back over there. I know I won’t make it back this time, but it really doesn’t matter because no one would even care.” Those were the heartbreaking words a soldier told our founder Carolyn Blashek back in 2003. He had lost everything and had lost sight of the amount of love and appreciation all around him. Carolyn was stunned, and she immediately wanted him and everyone who serves our country to know that the American people care. But what kind of gesture would reach deployed troops and impact them in a meaningful way? The idea came to her when she was reminded of the Care Packages she sent to her children when they were away. She wanted her kids to know that she was always thinking about them and was excited for their return home. That was the moment Operation Gratitude was born.Stacey Danlyn, Senior Director of Operations visited the club on October 17 told us more about the organization. The club presented a check to (photo: Stacey Danlyn (l) and Carolyn Blashek. Click on the photo to listen to a short video with Stacey).
