Lisa Wellik, District Peace Co-Chair spoke at the club's September 11 meeting. As a humanitarian organization, peace is a cornerstone of Rotary and District 5280's mission. "We believe when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect," said Wellik. "By carrying out service projects and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources. We are approaching the concept of peace with greater cohesion and inclusivity, broadening the scope of what we mean by peacebuilding, and finding more ways for people to get involved." |
Fellow Rotarians, 
We started off with a very meaningful Zoom meeting to remember 9/11 as is our tradition, brought to us by Past President Paul Gross. On Saturday September 5th, Ferne and Jay Saltzman had a successful “Final Sale” Art Show which raised funds to fight the scourge of human trafficking. We are grateful for their Rotary leadership, donations and passion through the years. 
We partnered with the West Valley Warner Center Chamber of Commerce and Granada Hills Rotary to sponsor the Kidney Quest Health and Wellness Fair at the Rose Goldwater Center on September 21st. The Expo provided our community with valuable health information and services at no charge. Special kudos to Grocery Outlet of Canoga Park for helping us promote that event. Thank you Bryna, Christy, Mona, Eva and Star for working on it. 
Kudos to all who donated funds for our two new avenues of service, Veterans Services and Senior Services. With the help of an anonymous donor, we raised over $20,000. Our fundraising efforts will make it possible for us to provide a larger response to the needs of seniors and veterans.
